Book Review: The Weight of Water

I wonder this: If you take a woman and push her to the edge, how will she behave?
Based on true events, The Weight of Water brings you a novel filled with mystery and loss. The plot goes back and forth between Maren, a survivor of a horrendous murder that occurred in the 1800's and Jean, a photographer who is researching the crime a decade later, in 1995. The language and the voice Anita Shreve uses is mesmerizing. In 1873 two women were murdered on a small island, Maren, the only survivor tells the events of that fatal night. Jean is suspecting of her husbands infidelity, bringing forth feelings of jealousy and mistrust leading her to actions she thinks she is incapable of. Horrific consequences come from her actions. Shreve weaves together two dramas into a single novel. I suggest you put this one on your must read list.
